Sharpness: Sony Fe 55 f1.8 vs Samyang 50 f1.4 vs Minolta MC 50 f1.4

1 vs vs2 vs3

We´ll, dont know how satisfied i am with this “test”. My guess is that the Sony Fe 55 missed focus slightly on the F8 shot (The branch in front of the sign is more in focus on the Sony shot). The Minolta has no doubt the best center sharpness at f8, between these shots atleast.

Apart from that the Sony Fe 55mm f1.8 win on all fronts (wideopen). We´ll perhaps not shortest DOF in the first shot, the other 2 are f1.4 the Sony beeing f1.8.

As far as sharpness wideopen goes, the Sony wins. Contrast seems pretty much on pair with the Samyang (but the Sony is better 🙂 ), the Minolta lacks pretty heavy in that area. Wideopen the Minolta also got that Strange “Vail”. Same milky layer as the Canon 50mm f1.8 has wideopen if you ever used that lens.

The f1.4 of the other blurs the background just slightly more than the Sony, if you look at the numbers in the background the are more obvious, partly because of the better contrast of the Sony but also due to the longer dof of the Sony.

(its says f1.8~2 because the other 2 dont have an f stop for f1.8 so its somewhere between f1.8 and f2)

Thats it for now 🙂

Random crap.

The following 2 shots is at same tint and temperature as this one.

Saturation is set to +29 on the shot above, not the other 2. they are at 0.

Sony A7r + Minolta 50mm f1.4

If you look at the shots of the car, the angle is pretty different as you could expect. Sharpness is kind of sort of simillar? 😛 The Minolta 50mm has less microcontrast i think so it looks less sharp then the other 2.

The Samyang 85mm has good microcontrast so it seems sharper then i think it is.

When i look at these pics in Lightroom at 100% its pretty obvious that the Sony FE 28mm is the sharpest one. Atleast wide open.

Gopro 3+ Black

Comparison between the old Gopro, shot in 720p 60fps. and the Gopro 3+ black shot in 1080p Superview mode. Alot more in frame on the 3+ and a **** load of difference in sharpness.

I know there is probably a million of these out there, i did this to see for myself the actual difference and i thought i might aswell put it here.

Print screens from straight from my screen, no sharpness added in either (or anything else).

Sony A7 + Nokton 35mm f1.2 vs Oly Em-5 Nokton 17.5mm f0.95

Em5-nokton-175 Ar7-Nokton-35

Em-5+Nokton 17.5mm f0.95, Iso 1000, 1/20

Bottom:

A7 + Nokton 35mm f1.2, iso 1600, 1/30

Both shot at Aperture priority, WB auto.

Here is some sort of comparison between the A7 and the Em5 both with Noktons, both is wideopen, almost same angle and distance from the glass, about 40cm?

As you can see it could have been done alot more accurate, its a bit off.

We were just having a köpp (coffee) and talking while i was trying som casual shots with my buddie, Rickards new A7.

(He just started posting pictures and his thoughts on the A7 here: http://www.mstadfoto.se/blogg/ )

Sharp stuff! Creamy bokeh! 🙂

And my thoughts? Well, like i said, i just took a few pics while we had a köpp. So i have´nt really made upp my mind about much yet.

BUT Bokeh is totally awesome on the A7. In the comparison shots above, there is more detail and such in the 17.5mm shot, but with in body image stabilizer and a longer DOF then you get on FF @1.2, so ofcourse you will have more detail/sharpness. Dof on Full frame f1.2 at this distance is almost nothing.

There is less noise on the A7 thats for sure. And that totally blown out background, i cant deny thats what i want in my photos, perhaps the 2000 USD Ibelux 40mm f/0.85 is the way to go ? 🙂

The shutter button on the A7 is kind of saucy, the em5 totally wins on that regard 😉 And as far as looks go, i think the A7 looks awesome, lens with the adapter, maybe not so much.

But al in all it still looks good.

Weight  is about the same (em5 with part one of HLD6), more glass in the 17.5mm f0.95 then in the 35mm f1.2 but the A7 weighs more then the em5? (i am not shure about this)

And the shots above, to me, the A7s auto WB is alot better, and i think colors are to. I had to change the WB of the em5 quite alot befor it looked somewhat like reality.

But in the end the A7s colors still look better, more calm then the Em5 produce with the Noktons.

Stay tuned 2 www.mstadfoto.se if you are looking for more A7 shots!

Thats all folks!

B+W Filters on Voigtländer Nokton 17.5mm f0.95

filters2-web pol-web nd110-web nd8-web nd4-web slim-UV-web No-filter-weballa6web

So here is some sort of comparison between the filters i use. The loss of sharpness is to my eyes in these 100% crops from un-edited raw files, almost or compleatly zero. The Color differs quite alot, the most surprising differences to me is between the ND4 and the polarized filter. The Nd4 is much warmer then i expected  and the polarizer does have some strange milky “feel” to it, its not like the milky feel you get out of a Canon 50mm 1.8 II if you everused one of those wide open. Its not sharp and milky. This is still sharp and milky.

The Nd110 is warmer, as to bee expected, from what i understand its got something to do with the extreme darkness of the filter, some rays of light has more truoble getting through. That might not be compleatly true, but its somewere along those lines… If you want more cientiffic explenation i recommend you google it 😉 Link here on the right hand side ——>

All phots taken on tripod, iso 200 f4. focused on the circle shown in the crop.

Filters compared on the Em-5 + Voigtländer 17.5mm f0.95 are:

B+W 58mm 010 XS-Pro UV-Haze MRC Nano

B+W 58mm 102 F-Pro ND 0,6 – 2 BL 4x E

B+W 58mm 103 F-Pro ND 0,9 – 3 BL 8x E

B+W 58mm 110 F-Pro ND 3,0 – 10 BL 1000x E

B+W 58mm F-pro Slim C-Pol.

All made in Germany.

This is really not my thing, so iguess i messed something up, but perhaps you get some sort of idea to how the filters perform.

Ja mata.
